On the Road Again

I apologize for not posting for a while!  A day or two after the last post Parelli Central called and asked if I would come teach at the FL campus for the month of March.  I might not have said yes except it also gave us an opportunity to visit my son and his lovely wife in Palm Coast.

On the way Dave and I got to visit
several great places so I'm just going to give you a condensed travel log and then put up another post I think will be especially interesting to my horsey followers.

We left Ajo on FEB 8 traveling southeast toward Douglas, AZ because we wanted to retraced of the steps Dave took on his journey hitchhiking and promoting Beggarman Bob to raise funds for orphanages back in 2011-12.

From there we went more northerly to Guadalupe Mountains National Park (I had never heard of it before.) and Carlsbad Caverns National Park.  Both of these parks are off the beaten path, but well worth the trip.  We will have to come back with the horses someday, since Dave didn't get to see either of them...he was sick and stayed in the motor home while I went hiking.

Devil's Hall
Heading east we went through Seminole, TX (another place on Dave's journey) and on to San Angelo.  Dave started having trouble with a tooth so we took a side trip to Del Rio then east and south to visit some Texas Parks...Choke Canyon, Mustang Island (with a side trip to Padre Island National Seashore), and Goose Island.  Do you know you can fish in Texas State Parks without a fishing license?

On the way to Houston, we enjoyed a night of theater in Wharton, TX.
After a couple days of
At the reservoir at Choke Canyon
lessons in Houston, we were on the way to another Texas Park:  Sea Rim.

After we left Texas, we retraced some more of the steps Dave took on is journey.  This took us to Archie, LA and Natchez, MS.

We moseyed our way back south again and ended up at Brownsville Assembly of God Church where there was a huge revival that impacted the world back in about 2000-2005.

No mustangs at Mustang Island but lots of birds!
From there we stumbled upon a real hidden jewel...Wright Lake campground in the Apalachicola National Forest.  We will go back there someday--with the horses!

We were getting close to our destination and wanted to stay at Manatee Springs State Park in FL, but the campground was full.  We did however get to go in and take a peek around included seeing four manatees and the beautiful crystal springs there.
